Sounds Historical gave us an excellent concert on ....., there was a distinctly avian theme to the 17th and 18th Century music they performed, which was warmly received and appreciated by the audience in our thousand year old church..... The playing was sublime and while the multiple instruments sounded wonderful, they often merged into a single beautifully coherent sound
We recently attended a concert of the "Sounds Historical" early music group who were playing the theme of The Bird Fanciers Delight. It was indeed a delight to hear the various instruments so beautifully played! Not only was the music a joy to hear but we were taken on an informative trip of the history of the pieces played during this period. Each player engaged with the audience in a friendly and often humorous way that made you feel that you were back in the early music era. We were given a background to the pieces with additional bird song repertoire that really bought it all to life for us.
There was something for everyone including a haunting contemporary piece. It was a thoroughly enjoyable evening with access to the players and instruments after the concert. I would highly recommend this Group to people of all ages with an interest in music and the historical era.
I absolutely loved the concert; you were all just amazing!
With over 30 instruments, how did you manage to stay in tune all the time!

The speaking in between really made it, we loved having the context and your jokes were really funny
Great atmosphere, we never thought we’d see anything as good as this in our local area!
We’ve travelled from all over, a lot of Memf members here today.
I live in Kettering and travelled over to Merevale. I think I’ll try and get my own group set up and get some local people together!
I’m fascinated by the big instrument!
All I can say is …..Michaela Petri, eat your heart out! I loved it…it was wonderful!
I used to teach recorder many years ago and loved helping the children with their music.
Really magnificent - will you please come again?

I would like to send my sincere thanks and appreciation for the magical performance of Sounds Historical last night. Please do pass this message on to Lynda, Mary and Alison.
It was a real pleasure and privilege to present the group at St. Michael’s. Your very skilled performance carried your audience through a most delightful journey of the music and culture of 18th century Europe. From a purely personal point of view you transported me back to a moment in life which I deeply treasure.
Please do come back to us next year

As a symphony orchestra wind player I’m accustomed to buckling up and reaching for earplugs when there’s a climax coming so it was a real pleasure to be inveigled into a sound world of a gentler, sweeter kind. Winding my tentative way through deep Cotswold lanes, I found myself in the pleasant Stour valley, to a diminutive but charming country church, where I was invited on a traditional musical Grand Tour. My hosts on this occasion were four talented ladies, from all points of the country, on their first group outing. In a breathless but absorbing hour-and-a-half I was whisked from the heady culture of Versailles, through Holland and Germany, to the splendour of northern Italy. Interspersing the charmingly informative and witty narrative were finely executed musical extracts – complete recorder sonatas, duets for transverse flutes, short pieces to show off the wonderful collection of period instruments including viols, theorbo, an entrancingly delicate early mandolin – it was a veritable feast for the eye as much as the ear. My bags are already packed for the next trip!
I loved it…I felt so honoured to see this live rather than on the tv !
I’m starting a new business this week and your concert just took my mind off it.
Usually when I hear chamber music on the radio it’s not always my cup of tea but I absolutely loved this!
I love Period drama and I never ever thought I’d get to see something like this in real life
Wonderful concert - I enjoyed every note!
Thank you @soundshistorical for such a stunning set and broadening our minds
The Grand Tour is nothing short of wonderful and inspiring . A journey beautifully told and exquisitely performed. A cultural memory our family will cherish.
Such an amazing performance. Wow!
